NIGERIA ECOLINGUISTICS ASSOCATION IN COLLOBORATION WITH THE INTERNATIONAL ECOLINGUISTICS ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES HER INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE 2020 (VIRTUAL PLATFORM) 7th – 9th December, 2020

About the Conference:  The issue of environment and its cultivation and preservation is as old as man itself. Environmental concerns have been expressed from different disciplines and from different regions of the world. Researchers have carried out studies on the subject of environment from diverse perspectives. The scientist and social scientists have also been interested in the subject. The topic has also caught the attention of linguists and language scholars and this has led to a sub-discipline of language study known as ecolinguistics which is an interrelationship between language and the environment.

The International Conference is organized by the Nigeria Ecolinguistics Association in collaboration with the International Ecolinguistics Association to brainstorm on ecological discourses using multidisciplinary approaches. The conference will bring together researchers within Nigeria and beyond to look at possible strategies toward environmental sustainability. The conference is coming at the time where the world is confronted with the COVID 19 PANDEMIC. It is our desire to seek the establishment of a disciplinary and transdisciplinary identity for ecolinguistics. This will foster links with other ecological science/humanities/social science disciplines and transdisciplinary fields. More specifically, the conference will explore the role of language in the life-sustaining interactions of humans, other species and the physical environment. The conference will advocate for environmental ethics and justices among other pertinent issues.
