Membership for the Nigeria Ecolinguistics Association is free and open to anyone with an interest in language and the life-sustaining interactions of humans, other species and the physical environment. For example:
- Researchers who are developing linguistic theories that take into account not just humans and human society, but the larger natural world of animals, plants, trees, soil, forests, rivers, climate etc.
- Linguists who want to apply their research to environmental issues such as climate change, biodiversity loss, environmental justice and alienation from nature.
- Ecologists, conservationists, environmentalists, ecocritics or ecopsychologists who are interested in the role of language in their area of research and practice
- Researchers who use linguistics to question the social structures that underpin an ecologically destructive society, and have a goal of social transformation.
To join the Nigeria Ecolinguistics Association, please email the convener here. You will be added to the Ecolinguistics List, a mailing list for sharing information about conferences, events, new articles and the latest developments in Nigeria ecolinguistics. You can unsubscribe from the list at any time by contacting the convener.
I had been expecting this for long. This is an area of interest that has been grossly neglected in our society. Yet we all need it.
ReplyDeleteYou are right. We are here to make a difference.
DeleteIt's about time! Looong overdue!
ReplyDeleteGreat. I am a member of the international association. I just got this mail:
ReplyDeleteDear IEA members,
I’m pleased to announce that a new regional ecolinguistics association has been established, the Nigeria Ecolinguistics Association. The new association has been developed by Dr David Wayas, a lecturer at the University of Nigeria, whose PhD was entitled “A Frames Approach to Semantic Analysis of Climate Change Concepts in Selected Nigerian Indigenous Languages”. Dr Wayas is now the regional representative for Nigeria in the International Ecolinguistics Association.
You can find out more about the NEA at https://ieanigeria.blogspot.com/
If you would like to join the NEA or offer Dr Wayas a message of support then you can contact him via email at david.waya@unn.edu.ng
It’s a very welcome new development and I’m grateful to Dr Wayas for taking this forward.
Best wishes,
Arran
PS: If you would like to create an affiliated regional association then I would recommend establishing a network that includes the most prominent ecolinguists in your region and then getting in touch with the IEA for further advice. Regional associations are affiliated via a decision of the steering committee.
I'll join this local one too.
Thank you Dr. Wayas for this initiative. Kindly avail me all the necessary information and further sources to enable me build up my interest in ecolinguistics.
